Was Your Galanz Fridge Recalled? How to Get the Free Repair

If you are checking for someone else, ask for a clear photo of the whole back label, not just the front of the fridge. The common mistake is easy: a person sees “Galanz retro refrigerator” in a headline, recognizes the rounded handle and bright color, and assumes the kitchen is now part of the recall. The more dangerous mistake is the quieter one — finding one of the five model numbers and never checking whether the date code is inside the covered range.

What to do if your label matches

If the model number and date code both match, unplug the refrigerator immediately. Move perishable food to another refrigerator, freezer, cooler, or a neighbor’s appliance if you can. What the repair recall does and does not prove

The CPSC notice identifies a fire and burn hazard but does not name the specific failed electrical component. If you see claims about a particular relay, overload protector, or other part, treat them as speculation unless Galanz or the CPSC says so directly. The practical safety instruction does not depend on guessing the component: a matching unit should be unplugged and repaired. [1]

Nor does the recall notice say that every unit has caught fire, or that every Galanz refrigerator is affected. It says Galanz received 34 reports of fires involving the recalled refrigerators, including the fatal smoke-inhalation case. If a post tells you to cut the power cord, send in photos, or expect a refund, do not apply that instruction to this Galanz recall unless it appears in the official Galanz or CPSC materials for these five models.

For the July 30, 2026 Galanz retro refrigerator recall, the CPSC-listed remedy is a free in-home repair. The owner’s job is to verify the model and date code, unplug a confirmed match, and schedule that repair through the official Galanz channels. [1]

If your fridge does not match both identifiers

If the model number is not one of the five listed models, this CPSC recall does not cover your unit. If the model number matches but the date code is outside 201812 through 202012, this CPSC recall does not cover your unit based on the current notice.
