Does F1 TV Pro still work on Apple TV and Chromecast?
F1 TV Pro is no longer sold in the US after F1 moved to Apple TV as F1 TV Premium. Existing Apple TV and Chromecast owners get a dated device-support breakdown: which hardware still works in 2026, which app path each device uses, and what replaced the old subscription.

Status check for the US, Q3 2026: F1 TV Pro is no longer a purchasable US product. If you own an Apple TV box or a Chromecast, the old question — “does this device support F1 TV Pro?” — has split into two different setup paths: the Apple TV app with the Formula 1 hub, or the standalone F1 TV app after linking an Apple account. Direct US F1 TV Pro sales ended on Dec. 8, 2025; annual plans stopped being purchasable on Oct. 17, 2025 and stopped renewing on Nov. 17, 2025; existing subscriptions were allowed to keep working only until their expiration date.[1][2][3]
That distinction matters because “Apple TV” can mean the Apple TV subscription, the Apple TV app, or an Apple TV hardware box. “Chromecast” can mean a Chromecast with Google TV that runs apps, an older Chromecast dongle that receives casts, or a smart TV with Chromecast built in. Those are not interchangeable in 2026.
Why your old F1 TV Pro subscription may still open
A working login is not proof that F1 TV Pro is still being sold in the US. The transition was staggered. Formula 1’s US Apple deal did not instantly switch off every paid account on the same day; it stopped new direct sales first, blocked annual purchases and renewals, and then let existing subscriptions run to their individual expiration dates.[1][2][3]

So if your old app still worked for part of 2026, that may have been a paid-through subscription aging out. It does not mean the same US subscription can be bought again, renewed indefinitely, or priced against old F1 TV Pro offers. For a US viewer now, Apple’s current Formula 1 access is tied to Apple TV: Apple listed Apple TV at $12.99 per month or $99 per year, with a seven-day free trial, and said F1 TV Premium is included at no extra cost for Apple TV subscribers in the US.[5]
The two supported-device lists you now have to keep separate
There is no single useful “F1 TV Pro supported devices” list for US viewers in 2026. There are two lists with different consequences.
- Apple TV app path: you subscribe to Apple TV in the US and watch through the Formula 1 hub in the Apple TV app. Apple says F1 TV Premium is included at no extra cost with Apple TV for US subscribers.[4][5]
- Standalone F1 TV app path: you link your Apple account at f1.com/apple, then use the F1 TV app on devices F1 lists as supported.[7][8]
The Apple TV app route is broad. Apple lists the Apple TV app across Apple devices, the web, many smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation, and Xbox; Apple Support also documents a Formula 1 hub inside the Apple TV app.[5][6] The standalone F1 TV app route is narrower and comes from F1’s own supported-device page, which lists web, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, Chromecast 3rd Gen and newer, Chromecast Ultra, and Chromecast with Google TV.[8]
As of this Aug. 25, 2026 status check, treat F1 Help’s device and casting pages as official but worth re-checking before a hardware purchase: the pages are JavaScript-rendered, and device-support wording can be easy to flatten into search-result shorthand. For a race-weekend living room, the exact app path matters more than the logo on the box.
Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV, consoles: which path applies?
Read this table by app path, not by brand. A Samsung TV that runs the Apple TV app is not automatically an F1 TV app device. A Chromecast puck that can receive a cast is not the same thing as a Chromecast with Google TV that installs apps. If you are used to device grids for services like watching USA Network without cable on a smart TV, use the same discipline here: app first, hardware second.

Setup path 1: watch through the Apple TV app
For a US viewer starting fresh in 2026, this is the replacement path for the old direct F1 TV Pro purchase: subscribe to Apple TV, open the Apple TV app on a supported device, then enter the Formula 1 hub. Apple says F1 TV Premium is included at no extra cost for US Apple TV subscribers, and Apple Support documents the Formula 1 viewing area inside the Apple TV app.[4][5][6]
On an Apple TV 4K box, that sounds simple because the service name, app name, and box name all line up. On a Roku, Fire TV, smart TV, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation, or Xbox, the same route still runs through the Apple TV app, not through a resurrected US F1 TV Pro storefront.
- Confirm you are using a US Apple TV subscription, not an expired direct F1 TV Pro subscription.
- Install or open the Apple TV app on the device you actually plan to use.
- Sign in with the Apple account that holds the Apple TV subscription.
- Open the Formula 1 hub inside the Apple TV app and check live, replay, or related F1 programming before the next session.
If the Formula 1 hub appears on a Samsung TV through the Apple TV app, that tells you the Apple TV path works on that TV. It does not prove the standalone F1 TV app is available on that Samsung TV. That sounds fussy until you are standing in front of a login screen ten minutes before qualifying.
Setup path 2: use the standalone F1 TV app after linking Apple
The standalone F1 TV app did not vanish as an app path for US Apple TV subscribers, but it is no longer the same as buying F1 TV Pro directly in the US. The bridge is account linking: Apple’s F1 information page points subscribers to f1.com/apple to link an Apple account for F1 TV access.[7]
- Go to f1.com/apple and complete the Apple account linking step.[7]
- Install the standalone F1 TV app only on a device F1 lists as supported: web, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, Chromecast 3rd Gen or newer, Chromecast Ultra, or Chromecast with Google TV.[8]
- Sign in and verify playback before relying on that app for a live race.
This path is most useful when the device you like already has a proper F1 TV app, or when you prefer the F1 app interface for timing, onboard feeds, archive viewing, or other F1 TV features. The important setup point is that the Apple subscription is now upstream of the US entitlement.
The Chromecast distinction that gets missed
Chromecast support is not one thing. Chromecast with Google TV is a small streaming device with an interface and app store; Apple lists it for the Apple TV app path, and F1 Help lists it for the standalone F1 TV app path.[5][8]
Older Chromecast sticks and Chromecast Ultra are different. They do not give you the same app grid as a Chromecast with Google TV. In the cited F1 Help material, their role is casting. F1 Help lists Chromecast 3rd Gen and newer and Chromecast Ultra as supported, and F1’s error-code guidance says Android casting is to Chromecast sticks or dongles, not to smart TVs with Chromecast built in.[8][9]
That last clause is the practical one. A TV menu that says “Chromecast built-in” should not be treated as equivalent to a physical Chromecast dongle for F1 casting. If your plan is to cast from Android, test against the actual HDMI dongle or stick F1 describes, not merely the TV’s built-in casting label.
If your device is not clearly in one of those rows
Use a short compatibility check rather than a brand assumption.
- Can the device open the Apple TV app and show the Formula 1 hub? If yes, use the Apple TV app path.
- Can the device install or run the standalone F1 TV app from F1’s supported-device list after you link at f1.com/apple? If yes, use the linked F1 TV app path.[7][8]
- Is it only a smart TV with built-in Chromecast? Do not count that as supported Android casting unless F1’s current help page says so; the cited F1 guidance distinguishes it from Chromecast sticks and dongles.[9]
- Is the claim coming from a forum post, search snippet, or a geo-served offer page? Treat it as a lead to verify, not as compatibility proof.
The geo-served point is not academic. Formula1.com’s subscription page can show different offers depending on location, and direct F1 TV Pro availability outside the US is not the same as the US Apple transition described here.[10] If you are outside the US, the answer may still involve direct F1 TV Pro; if you are in the US, the 2026 replacement path is Apple TV and linked F1 TV Premium access.
For a US Apple TV or Chromecast owner, the final question is narrower than it used to be: does this exact device run the Apple TV app’s Formula 1 hub, the standalone F1 TV app after Apple linking, or only an unsupported casting/app path? Once you answer that, the old “F1 TV Pro supported devices” wording stops being the right map.
